Blown-in Insulation

Blown-in insulation is usually made from cellulose material using recycled newspaper, cardboard, and other wood-based materials. Cellulose is treated using fire retardant materials, boric acid, and other substances that make it both flame and mold resistant. Other materials used to make blown-in insulation include styrofoam pellets or loose fiberglass fibers.

This is the best method to significantly improve attic insulation and for wall cavities it’s a practical way to apply the R-value in stud cavities. The thermal resistance value, R-value or RSI-value of your home is directly tied to the depth and type of insulation in your home. The higher the R-Value, the more efficient your home will be at maintaining a consistent temperature.
